Flexrow concept offers quick drill row width adjustment

A Swedish company has designed a drill toolbar that allows for quick adjustments of row spacing to suit particular crops and varieties.

Landberg Solutions’ Flexrow concept was trialled last year using a 3m toolbar, and there are now plans to scale this up to 10m and 20m units.

It works using a patented hydraulic actuator invented by the Saab aircraft company. When integrated into a drill, it allows for push-button alterations to coulter position – all the driver has to do is select the crop on a monitor to engage a pre-programmed row width.

The other benefit of the system is that coulters can be moved closer to the hopper during transport, which shifts the centre of gravity and should make the drill more stable on the road.

The development team, which includes staff at Linkoping University, is now looking at ways to commercialise the concept as part of Sweden’s Agtech 2030 project.
