Kate & Vicky Morgan

DP Morgan, Pockthorpe, East Yorkshire

  • Farm size: 1,700 breeding sows
  • Annual rainfall: 162mm
  • Soil type: Chalky wold

Although the pig sector will not have to cope with the loss of BPS, the recent pig crisis has made Vicky and Kate Morgan look again at how they’re running their 1,700-head pig enterprise.

To spread risk and reduce costs, the family is considering diversification into holiday accommodation, and potentially growing more of their own feed.

There is also the possibility that producers could receive money under the new post-Brexit domestic agricultural policy for enhancing welfare.

Transition goals:

  • Facilitate structural change in supply chain
  • Establish more influence over their own destiny
  • Diversify
