Andrew Brewer is landowner and award-winning farmer at F G Brewer & Sons Farms, in Fraddon, Cornwall.

His family have owned the farm since 1952 and, for the last seven generations, have farmed beef, sheep and arable, and more recently, also run a dairy farm.

Renewable energy has been part of their business since 2011 and, working with Renewable Connections, Andrew and his family are extending further into renewables.

In January 2023, Cornwall Council gave the go-ahead for a solar farm up to 49.9 megawatts (MW) on the Brewer’s farm, that will power up to 17,000 UK homes with clean, home-grown energy.

Commenting on his business Andrew said: “Tregonning Solar Farm will make a valuable contribution towards Cornwall and the UK’s ambitious climate change targets.

The scheme is relevant, timely, and will produce cost-effective energy while enabling my family and I to continue to farm grazing animals and produce much-needed food.

“The forty-year life of the project also gives us a stable, secure, and sustainable future.

He added: “Partnering with a reputable renewable energy developer, genuinely committed to engaging with the local community, was very important to my family and I.

Renewable Connections have worked with us every step of the way to deliver a site that is exceptionally well-designed, integrates significant ecological enhancements, renewable generation, and agricultural productivity.”
