Video: Should you do a full reseed or renovate pasture?
© Tim Scrivener In most cases, if a sward is past its best, there is no substitute for ploughing. However, overseeding can also be beneficial.
In the video below, Germinal’s Daniel Loe sets out the benefits of each and provides advice on how to carry them out to achieve the best results.

Ploughing and reseeding
- Removes less-productive, less-palatable weed grass

Overseeding
- If a sward has become thin in the bottom
- Low-cost way to introduce new grass varieties
Overseeding results will be one of the features at Germinal’s grassland management and reseeding day at Trefranck Farm, near Launceston, in Cornwall on Tuesday (4 July) between 10am-2pm.
On the day, Germinal will also be revealing the results of pasture comparison trials and will be releasing weaning weight data of lambs grazing on various pasture types.
Farmers will also be able to find out how host farmers and Farmers Weekly Farmer Focus writers, Matt and Pip Smith, are using rotational grazing to manage grass.
